Scam News

Fake Firefox 'update email'? - don't click, or you may have your PASSWORD STOLEN !!

Although we see some very sneaky social engineering tricks used by scammers and cybercriminals designed to trick users into making unwise decisions, we also see some very basic attempts at online crime.
Take, for instance, this email which was spammed out this weekend pretending to be an advisory about a new update to the popular Firefox web browser.

Hopefully no regular reader would fall for it? But some still do!

Scams are a massive intrusion into all users of the internet, figures gathered worldwide come up with numbers that beggar belief: Out of all the emails sent nearly 98% are 'Scam based emails' This statistic shows exactly why we must alway's be aware why we must never let our guard down! Even if the received email has content that 'seems' genuine, unless you are 100 % certain of its origin take care when opening or using 'links' contained in the email.
Using the analogy of 'Alway's Use Protection' campaign for safe sex, well the end result is similar if you don't. You get loads of hassel, the potential for raiding your Bank Accounts is just one. Protection and Care are wise choices.

You should always exercise caution when you're asked to click

on a link in an unsolicited email.

Never...Never...Use emails for updating your software is the 'general rule'
However should the need of last resort arise..... 'Cut & Paste' rather than clicking links!!

Don't forget if you are not sure, or feel something is not right about any email, exercise caution!  Acting impulsively can start a chain reaction that will draw many of your friends and those on your 'contact list' into a situation where the safety of your and your friends personal details, or worse ...your Banking Details will be compromised.
In most cases Banks are sympathetic and will reimburse funds taken, this action is not a 'given' if they feel you have not been as careful as you should have, it has been known for account holders to lose out...so take care on line!

One of the biggest Social Networking Sites in the UK has been attacked and a substantial number of users 'Passwords' have been stolen. Clearly for some nefarious use later.

The safest action that can be taken in this circumstance is to change the 'Password' as soon as possible.

One of the best pieces of advice when carrying out large amounts of work, logging in to many sites etc. is to get into the habbit of changing your 'Password' on a frequent basis.

Many Home machines are found to have the same passwords since the machine was 1st configured..this is a Mistake.

Weaknesses such as this are easily penetrated to reek havoc with your personal details.
